Shaping our digital futureRedcar College

Our MD Paul Sheperia has been invited by Tees Valley Unlimited (our LEP) to participate in the debate to shape the future of the Teesside region's digital strategy over the next 5 years.

The evening was facilitated by theDigitalCity mentor David Anderson who is well known in the North East Digital sector for the iSD programme.

A number of Teesside and specifically Redcar area business leaders attended the event held at Redcar College and discussed the issues and obstacles to business in the local area and the many positive aspect and areas for promotion.  Paul was actively involved in the debate, along with colleagues and peers from the likes of Onyx Internet.  It was quite a lively discussion and one we collectively hope that the local economic partnership Tees Valley Unlimited take positively on board for the greater good of business in Teesside and the wider North East.

The major ideas and points raised included:

  • Improvements to core infrastructure - internet connectivity costs and speed within the Teesside area
  • Not prescribing technologies but allowing digital business to find their own course by providing the environment that is condusive to business
  • Improving staffing and training support
  • Promoting our achievments both nationally and internationally, perhaps through major events
  • Providing a figurehead visionary who is steeped in digital, as organisations such as Codeworks have benefited the wider community in the North East
